KAWEMPE, Kampala (UGNEWSLINE) – Makerere III Parish Councillor in Kawempe Division, Kyobe Muhammad, has urged residents to maintain proper hygiene and protect the environment by regularly cleaning their homes and desilting drainage channels to prevent the spread of diseases.
Kyobe made the call on October 8, 2026, during a community cleaning exercise under the Bulungi Bwa Nsi campaign conducted in Sebina Kibe, Mayinja, Good Hope, Kiggundu and Dobi zones.
The exercise was part of activities marking Buganda Kingdom’s Bulungi Bwasi, ahead of Uganda’s National Independence Daiy on October 9.
During the campaign, residents cleaned blocked drainage channels and collected rubbish from their homes and public places, including schools, places of worship and commercial premises.
Kyobe, who is also the executive director of the Kyobe Muhammad Foundation, said the organisation remains committed to empowering vulnerable groups, including children, women, youth and street-connected children, through community sensitisation and skills development programmes.
He explained that the foundation provides technical support and income-generating skills training to help vulnerable people establish small businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Kyobe commended the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the Ministry of Education and Sports, the leadership of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and development partners for supporting community development initiatives.
Kyobe encouraged residents to take advantage of government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to improve their household incomes and fight poverty.
He urged residents to embrace hard work and use available government funding opportunities to establish income-generating activities that can improve their living standards.
Kyobe also encouraged candidates preparing for their final examinations to remain focused on their studies, work hard and put God first in all their endeavours.
He emphasised that maintaining clean surroundings, embracing self-reliance and investing in education are important steps towards building healthier and more prosperous communities.
