RUBANDA — Police in Kigezi Region have condemned mob justice after a 35-year-old man died following an assault by a group of people in Rubanda District.
The deceased has been identified as Tukamushaba Boaz, a 35-year-old peasant and resident of Kitumbezi Village, Bubare Ward, Bubare Town Council in Rubanda District.
According to police, the incident occurred on September 11, 2026, at about 1:30pm in Kanaba Village, Bubare Ward.
Police said Tukamushaba was allegedly found in the area and suspected of being about to commit a felony, reportedly involving the theft of a pig.
A group of people who have not yet been identified allegedly descended on him and assaulted him severely.
Police responded to the scene and rushed Tukamushaba to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police in Kigezi have condemned the incident, saying mob justice is unlawful, undermines the rule of law and can result in the loss of innocent lives.
Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
