Leader of Patriotic League Uganda – PLU Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has declared his intention to seek the Ugandan presidency in the 2031 general elections.
The announcement was made by PLU Executive Secretary to the Chairman, MP David Kabanda, during a press conference at the organisation’s offices along Kyadondo Road in Kampala.
Kabanda said Gen. Muhoozi had instructed him to inform the public about his intention to contest for president in 2031.
He further claimed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had approved Muhoozi’s political ambitions, saying there would therefore be no conflict between the two leaders.
Kabanda also said President Museveni would serve as Gen. Muhoozi’s chief campaign manager.
He cited what he described as a previous political decision involving the 11th Parliament Speaker, Anita Among, as an indication that Muhoozi’s plans could be implemented as communicated.
Kabanda said PLU will now begin nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2031 elections. He said the organisation plans to mobilise supporters in all 146 districts and build a strong political base for Gen. Muhoozi.
He said the ultimate goal is to have a majority of Ugandans supporting Muhoozi by the time of the 2031 presidential election.
Following the announcement, campaign posters bearing the slogan “Muhoozi Gwe Akimala”, which means “Muhoozi is the one who can solve everything,” started circulating.
