MITYANA District UGNEWSLINE) – A 17-year-old student of Naama Secondary School has died following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and an Isuzu Elf along the old Mityana-Mubende Road. Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle, who reportedly fled after the crash.
The deceased, identified as Jamada Mugerwa, was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 732F, from school towards his home on Wednesday evening, 4 November 2026.
According to police, the accident occurred at about 19:30 at Wabiruku Swamp along the old Mityana-Mubende Road, when the motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming blue Isuzu Elf, registration number UBQ 807V, travelling from Mityana towards Mubende.
The Wamala Region police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, said the collision left Mugerwa and his passenger, another student identified only as Angel, injured. He added that the Isuzu Elf reportedly had defective headlamps, which affected visibility.
“Our traffic police officers, led by Head Constable Major Wathum Abubaker, visited the scene, where they documented the incident and prepared a sketch to support investigations,” Kigozi said.
The two victims were rushed to Mityana General Hospital for treatment, while the wreckage of both vehicles was towed to the Mityana Traffic Police parking yard for further examination.
However, Mugerwa succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, 5 November, turning what had initially been classified as a serious road crash into a fatal accident.
Police say the driver of the Isuzu Elf fled the scene and remains at large, with efforts under way to trace and arrest him.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
Kigozi expressed condolences to Mugerwa’s family, friends and the Naama Secondary School community, including fellow students and teachers, following his death.
