KAMPALA, Uganda— NIC General Insurance has announced a landmark sponsorship package valued at USD 2 million to support the She Cranes, Uganda’s national netball team, together with their technical officials, as they finalize preparations for the Celtic Netball Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 26–30 November 2025 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
The sponsorship package, equivalent to seven billion, two hundred eighty million Uganda shillings, was unveiled by Mr. Edu Elias, Managing Director of NIC General Insurance, reaffirming the company’s long-standing commitment to nurturing sports excellence and elevating Uganda’s visibility on the international netball stage. The support will cover the entire team and officials traveling with them for the games.
This support comes at a pivotal moment as the She Cranes unveil their final squad for this prestigious championship. Uganda has continued to cement its position as a fast-rising force in global netball, and the upcoming Celtic Netball Cup presents a strategic platform for the team to showcase their skill, discipline, and national pride.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr. Elias emphasized that the sponsorship reflects NIC General Insurance’s holistic approach to national development beyond its core financial services.
“Our partnership with the She Cranes is not just an investment in sport, but an investment in Uganda’s youth, talent, and international competitiveness. We are proud to stand with the team as they prepare to raise our flag in Scotland,” he said.
The sponsorship package covers team welfare, travel facilitation, high-performance preparation, insurance coverage, and logistical support for both players and technical officials. The company emphasized that empowering women in sports remains a central pillar of its corporate social responsibility mandate.
Officials from the Uganda Netball Federation expressed profound appreciation for the support, noting that such strategic partnerships are vital in sustaining the She Cranes’ impressive performance record.
“This support from NIC General Insurance comes at the perfect time. It boosts the players’ confidence and strengthens our preparations for a tournament of this magnitude,” said Aminah Mande, the Federation’s Secretary General.
The She Cranes are expected to depart for Scotland in the coming days as they prepare to face top-ranked teams in the second edition of the Celtic Netball Cup.
“The She Cranes are ready to go and proudly represent Uganda. Should any of us fall sick or encounter accidents, this support will ensure we receive the necessary medical care, especially since the hospitals we will be accessing can be very expensive. We have many officials and players traveling, so this sponsorship gives us great confidence and peace of mind. We are grateful to NIC General Insurance for standing with us,” said Racheal Nanyonga, She Cranes Captain.
