National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in the Ankole sub-region have intensified preparations for the forthcoming Village Women Council and LC I Chairperson elections, calling for unity, reconciliation, and robust grassroots mobilization to secure victory for the party.

The renewed mobilisation drive was reinforced during a high-level regional entry meeting held at Adit Mall Conference Hall, which brought together Members of Parliament, district leaders, women leaders, and other party officials from across the sub-region under the theme, “Strong Foundations for NRM Victory.”

Leading the engagement, Ankole regional team leader and NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner James Tweheyo underscored the importance of strengthening village structures as the cornerstone of the party’s continued success. He urged leaders to remain focused on grassroots organization and mobilization as the NRM prepares for the upcoming elections.

The meeting was attended by several party leaders, including NRM Women’s League Chairperson Adrine Kobusingye, NRM Women’s League National Treasurer Hon. Ann Lumumba, and Hon. Enid Mwesigye, the Vice Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League for Western Uganda. They emphasized the critical role of women in mobilizing communities and safeguarding the party’s support base at the grassroots.

Addressing participants, Kobusingye thanked the people of Ankole for their overwhelming support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM in the recently concluded presidential elections, describing it as a vote of confidence in the party’s commitment to peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation.

She challenged leaders to translate that support into active participation in the forthcoming grassroots electoral processes, stressing that national electoral success begins with strong village-level structures.

Hon. Ann Lumumba called upon Women’s League leaders and NRM cadres across the region to intensify door-to-door mobilization and ensure every eligible voter participates in the upcoming elections.

Hon. Enid Mwesigye echoed the call, urging leaders to strengthen party cohesion and maintain close engagement with communities. She said the Village Women Council and LC I elections present an opportunity to consolidate the party’s achievements and reinforce its grassroots presence.

A central message throughout the meeting was the need for reconciliation and unity within the party. Leaders emphasized that internal cohesion would be crucial in ensuring the NRM secures all available positions in the forthcoming elections.

Tweheyo urged participants to prioritize reconciliation among party members, end internal divisions, and work together under the banner of “One Party, One Candidate.” He cautioned against independent candidacies that could weaken the party’s collective strength and called on members to protect and uphold the NRM flag at all levels.

He further described the LC I and Village Women Council elections as the foundation of the party’s broader political success, noting that strong grassroots leadership is essential for effective service delivery, community mobilization, and sustaining the NRM’s dominance across the country.

As preparations gather momentum, the leaders resolved to mobilize supporters throughout Ankole to actively participate in the Village Barazas scheduled for July 22, the Village Women Council elections on July 23, and the LC I Chairperson elections on July 28, 2026.

The Ankole meeting forms part of the NRM’s nationwide mobilisation campaign aimed at strengthening village structures and ensuring the party remains firmly rooted among the people.
