The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has expressed satisfaction with the strong response to the call for expressions of interest for two positions in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
Following Monday’s announcement, the Commission received 39 applications, with 38 candidates successfully nominated.

Dr. Odoi emphasized that the nomination process was conducted transparently and in full compliance with party procedures. He noted that the list of nominees includes members of the 11th Parliament who resigned their seats to meet the legal requirements for the EALA race.
With nominations now closed, the Commission will forward the candidate list to the party Secretary General, who will submit it to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for vetting and voting. The final stage will see the nominees presented to the NRM Parliamentary Caucus for election, scheduled for Friday at State House, Entebbe.
Dr. Odoi stressed that, despite the large number of applicants, the party seeks to fill only two positions. He encouraged those not selected to remain engaged and consider future opportunities, particularly in 2027.
He also clarified that the ongoing internal party processes do not affect the tenure of current EALA representatives, who will continue to serve until the end of their term in accordance with the law.
