NTUNGAMO District  — First Lady and Ntungamo District NRM Chairperson Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni has celebrated what she described as the “remarkable socioeconomic transformation” of Ntungamo District, attributing the progress to consistent investment and stable leadership under the NRM government.

Speaking during the NRM presidential campaign rally at Kyamate Primary School Playgrounds, Maama Janet said Ntungamo had experienced both qualitative and quantitative growth, with the population rising from 380,000 to 553,000 people over the years.

“Ntungamo is not the same district it was years ago,” she said. “We have more schools, better roads, stronger health facilities, wider electricity coverage, and improved access to clean water. This is real transformation impacting real families.”

Development Funds Boost Household Incomes

Maama Janet highlighted the positive impact of government-funded economic empowerment programs. She noted that UGX 39 billion under the Parish Development Model (PDM) has already reached 38,693 beneficiaries engaged in income-generating activities. She also applauded the progress of the UGX 3.8 billion Emyooga initiative, Youth Livelihood programs, and Women Empowerment schemes.

“These funds are seeds of prosperity,” she explained. “They are helping households break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable livelihoods.”

She further pointed to Ntungamo’s 700km of tarmac roads, expanded electricity distribution, and water access as signs of the district’s steady upward trajectory. She also hinted at areas requiring improvement in the next NRM term.

President Museveni Makes Case for Re-election

NRM Presidential Candidate Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also addressed the gathering, outlining key achievements of his government and urging Ntungamo residents to renew his mandate.

“The peace, the schools, the electricity, the hospitals, the roads, the jobs, these are not promises; they are achievements you can see for yourselves,” President Museveni said. “Ntungamo reflects the NRM’s ability to move Uganda forward.”

He encouraged residents to fully utilize government interventions to create wealth, differentiating between government-led development and citizen-led wealth creation.

“Government provides development; roads, schools, electricity,” he said. “But it is your responsibility to use these tools for wealth creation.”

Warnings and New Projects Announced

President Museveni cautioned PDM committees in Ntungamo against demanding collateral from beneficiaries.

“PDM money is not a collateral-based loan,” he warned. “Anyone imposing such conditions must stop immediately.”

He confirmed new major road projects slated for Ntungamo District, including:

Mirama Hills – Kitwe – Rugorogota – Kitagata Road, Nyamuyanja – Kabuyanda Road, Kitwe – Rukoni – Bugamba Road

Museveni also hinted at additional upcoming development initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and economic productivity.

Focus on Peace, Agriculture and Industrialization

The President reminded the electorate that peace remains the foundation upon which Ntungamo’s development is built.

“Without peace, none of this progress would be possible,” he emphasized.

He pledged to expand water for irrigation and strengthen agricultural support systems to boost productivity.

President Museveni also outlined the NRM’s industrialization and job creation plan, encouraging residents to tap into opportunities in commercial agriculture, ICT, and the services sector.

Education and Skilling: Key to Job Creation

Museveni highlighted the impact of free universal education, saying it equips children with the skills necessary for future employment. He cited graduates from the Ankole Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub, many of whom have become job creators.

“Universal education is a direct path to opportunity,” he said. “Defend it, support it, and ensure every child benefits.”

Maama Janet Calls for Massive Voter Mobilization

Maama Janet urged the NRM fraternity to mobilize households and community members to turn up in large numbers on voting day.

“Let every member of your household vote and protect the NRM win,” she encouraged. “We must all take responsibility for safeguarding our progress.”
