The Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Alex Mufumbiro, was reportedly arrested on Monday by unidentified armed men shortly after leaving the Kawempe Magistrates Court.
According to allegation by NUP officials, Mufumbiro had been attending a court hearing for three party members; Eddie Mutwe, Achileo Kivumbi, and Tasi Calvin, also known as Bobi Giant, when he was forcibly seized by security operatives.
Party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), alleged that Mufumbiro was violently dragged into a vehicle bearing registration number UAK 368K and driven to an undisclosed location.
Later in the day, photos emerged showing Mufumbiro holding his shoes allegedly being escorted by armed men to his residence, where a search was reportedly conducted.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest and the nature of the search remain unclear.
“The cowardice and criminality of the regime is baffling,” Ssenyonyi said, condemning what he called a deliberate campaign of intimidation against the opposition.
