Old Mutual Uganda has introduced a new digital platform aimed at helping Ugandans manage different aspects of their wellbeing, including their finances, mental health, physical fitness and nutrition.

The application, called Thrive by Old Mutual, was launched at MoTIV in Bugolobi, Kampala, during an event attended by customers, wellness experts, fitness groups and other partners.

The initiative comes at a time when concerns over mental health and other pressures affecting people’s wellbeing are increasing.

The National Planning Authority’s State of Uganda Population Report 2025, titled “Mental Health: A Silent Emergency”, shows that reported mental-health cases rose by more than 71 percent between 2021 and 2024, with almost one in every four Ugandans affected.

Old Mutual says the different challenges people face are often connected, with financial difficulties, poor nutrition, physical health and mental wellbeing influencing people’s daily decisions and quality of life.

Thrive brings resources covering these areas onto one digital platform, allowing users to access information, practical tools and wellness activities intended to support healthier lifestyles and financial habits.

Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda,Zac Kisesi said financial wellbeing goes beyond income and involves people’s ability to make sound financial decisions and prepare for their future.

He said the application is intended to help users develop practical financial habits and work towards their financial goals as part of their everyday lives.

Managing Director of Old Mutual Insurance Uganda,Andrew Makumbi said the initiative changes the way insurance can engage with customers by placing greater emphasis on preventing risks and promoting healthier lifestyles.

He said insurers can play a role beyond responding to losses by helping customers make choices that improve their resilience and wellbeing.

Managing Director of Old Mutual Life Assurance Uganda,Patrick Kimathi said the application also encourages people to consider their long-term wellbeing when making everyday decisions about their health and finances.

The application is being introduced as access to digital services continues to grow in Uganda.

The Uganda Communications Commission’s Q2 2026 Market Performance Report shows that active mobile internet subscriptions increased from 17.9 million in March to 19.7 million by June, while active mobile subscriptions rose from 47.5 million to 49 million during the same period.

Old Mutual says the growing number of people accessing the internet through mobile devices provides an opportunity to deliver wellness information and services digitally.

The Thrive programme includes fitness challenges, meditation, yoga, relaxation activities, nutrition guidance and discussions on financial and mental wellness.

Users can also receive rewards, including vouchers from participating partners, after completing selected wellness challenges.

Old Mutual says the long-term aim is to create a community in which users are encouraged to make gradual and consistent changes to improve their overall wellbeing.

The Thrive application is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
