Kira Police Division launched a major intelligence-driven operation on the night of September 16, targeting crime hotspots in Mbalwa, Kakajjo, and Kireku neighborhoods.
The crackdown, which began at 9:00 pm, aimed to dismantle the increasing drug-related criminal activities, especially those involving opium.
During the raid, officers arrested 33 suspects, 13 from Mbalwa and 20 from Kakajjo’s Koboko zone and Kireku area. All were charged with possession of narcotic substances. Police also seized significant quantities of opium, now held as evidence.
Police teams had carefully mapped the targeted locations and received thorough briefings on maintaining professional conduct throughout the operation. Authorities say the mission successfully met its objectives, signaling a continued commitment to tackling crime in the region.
“The Uganda Police Force will maintain these intelligence-led initiatives to disrupt criminal networks and restore safety to communities,” said Patrick Onyango, Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
