Uganda’s Inspector General of Police has deployed 95 new motorcycles across the five districts of the Wamala Region to improve police mobility, crime prevention and response to incidents at sub-county level.
The motorcycles have been distributed to police stations in Mubende, Mityana, Kassanda, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi, with Mubende receiving the largest allocation of 33 motorcycles. Mityana received 19, while Kassanda and Kyankwanzi each received 15 and Kiboga received 13.
Police said the deployment is intended to ensure that every sub-county police station has access to at least two motorcycles, with additional deliveries expected.
The new motorcycles are expected to help officers reach crime scenes and respond more quickly to emergencies, particularly in areas where transport has been a challenge.
Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, urged officers to use the motorcycles responsibly and warned that misuse could result in disciplinary action.
“Officers are cautioned against careless and reckless use of these motorcycles. They are an essential force multiplier in the fight against crime and should be used for the purpose for which they have been provided,” Kigozi said.
He also called on members of the public to report any abuse or misuse of the motorcycles to the police so that appropriate action can be taken.
The deployment is part of efforts to strengthen policing at sub-county level and improve the speed with which officers respond to incidents across the Wamala Region.
