Police dog trail leads investigators to two sons after 95-year-old woman is found beheaded

For several hours, the disappearance of a 95-year-old woman in Kagadi remained a mystery.
Then investigators brought in a police sniffer dog.
The dog picked up a scent from the scene and followed a trail through a thick sugarcane plantation before leading investigators to the homes of two men believed to be sons of the missing woman.
Police in Kagadi District say Angela  Kabagenzi disappeared from her home in Matuntu A Village on the night of 4 September.
The following morning, her body was discovered about 300 metres from her home, inside a sugarcane plantation. Her head was missing.
Police were called to the scene and began examining how the elderly woman could have left her home and where the trail might have led.
A sniffer dog, identified as T/P 240 Marshal, was brought in and picked up a scent. Investigators say it tracked the trail to the home of Peter Biija before continuing to the home of another son, identified as Isingoma.
Both men were arrested to assist with the investigation.
Police say the investigation took another turn when Isingoma led officers and members of the community to a location where the missing head was allegedly buried. It was subsequently recovered.
The circumstances surrounding Kabagenzi’s death, including what happened on the night she disappeared and why her body was found in the plantation, remain under investigation.
The two suspects were placed under police custody pending further investigation.
