Police have launched an investigation into the death of Sports Club Villa captain David Owor, popularly known as “Colgate”, after he was found critically injured following a suspected assault in Makindye Division.
The 28-year-old footballer, a resident of Dubai Zone in Makindye Division, is believed to have been attacked by unidentified assailants while walking along Nalinya–Mpologoma Road on Monday, 4 August.
The exact time and motive for the attack remain unknown.
“We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Owor David, also known as ‘Colgate’,” Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said in a statement.
She said detectives were working to establish how the attack happened and identify those responsible.
According to police, passers-by found Owor unconscious and rushed him to Sir Albert Cook Hospital for emergency treatment.
At about 2:00am, he was referred to Case Hospital for specialised care, where he was later pronounced dead.
Kawala said officers had documented and processed the crime scene to ensure that all relevant evidence was collected and preserved. She added that investigations were ongoing and that further details would be released as inquiries progressed.
Owor, who captained Sports Club Villa, was one of the club’s most recognisable players.
