Police investigations into the recovery of three suspected stolen cows and a motor vehicle, registration number UAX 417Y, have made significant progress, with authorities now moving toward returning the animals to their rightful owner.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owiyesigyire, detectives established that the vehicle in question had been repeatedly spotted transporting cattle from Kayunga District to Kampala, raising early suspicions during the inquiry.
He said working in coordination with police in Kayunga, investigators traced a complainant from Nsiima Village in Kayonza Sub-county, who had previously reported the theft of three female cows at Kayonza Police Station.
The farmer later identified the recovered animals as his missing livestock after providing detailed descriptions that matched the cattle in police custody.
To further support his claim, the complainant explained that one of the missing cows had been separated from its calf during the theft. On June 11, 2026, he presented the calf, which reportedly suckled one of the recovered cows, an observation that strongly reinforced his ownership claim.
He also submitted additional supporting documentation, including confirmation from the local LC1 leadership regarding the original report of theft.
Police say the recovered cattle are now being processed for formal handover through Kayunga Police, after which they will be released to the confirmed owner once all documentation is completed.
Meanwhile, efforts remain ongoing to identify the owner of the vehicle used in the suspected theft and to apprehend the remaining suspects linked to the case.
