Kampala Metropolitan Police have unveiled a detailed security and traffic plan ahead of the upcoming Member of Parliament nominations, pledging a coordinated operation with intelligence and sister forces to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
In a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the force emphasizes its commitment to maintaining law and order at all nomination centers within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
According to Onyango, a joint deployment of police and intelligence units will be stationed at key locations to deter disruptions, manage crowds, and uphold safety protocols throughout the exercise.
“The Police will work hand in hand with Electoral Commission officials to guarantee that the nomination process proceeds in full compliance with the law and established guidelines,” Onyango stated.
As part of the security plan, candidates and their agents are urged to maintain close coordination with the police, especially when planning any post-nomination rallies. Authorities require prior notification of the venue and time for such gatherings to ensure proper security arrangements.
To further enhance safety and order, strict crowd control measures will be in place. Supporters will be kept at a safe distance from the nomination centers, and only a limited number will be allowed direct access.
Each candidate will be permitted to bring only two vehicles and a maximum of six supporters to the nomination venue. Additional supporters will not be allowed on-site.
Traffic plan for Ntinda nomination centre
Nominations taking place at the Electoral Commission Offices in Ntinda will follow a clearly defined traffic plan:

All candidates must access the EC offices via the Kyambogo traffic lights, using the Ntinda-Kyambogo junction.

A security checkpoint will be established immediately after the traffic lights.

Designated parking will be available at the International School near Canon Road.

After completing their nomination, candidates will be escorted by police from the EC offices to UNEB via Nalya roundabout and the Northern Bypass.

Crucially, nominated candidates will not be allowed to proceed into town following the process.
Police have urged all candidates and their supporters to adhere strictly to these guidelines to avoid unnecessary delays or security complications. Intelligence agencies will also be actively gathering information on any potential threats and taking preventative measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the nomination exercise.
