Police in Ntungamo District have arrested one suspect following a late-night burglary at the home of a prominent businessman in Sofia Town, Mirama Town Council.
The break-in occurred at around 11:00 p.m. on February 20, 2026, at the residence of Kabagambe Isaak, a businessman operating at the Mirama border.
According to preliminary investigations, Kabagambe returned home at about 11:00 p.m. after work and opened his door without noticing anything unusual. However, upon entering, he found his house in disarray. Reports indicate that when he rushed to his bedroom to investigate, he was shocked to find three intruders inside, two standing beside his bed and one hiding underneath it.
The startled homeowner immediately raised an alarm and ran outside screaming for help. The suspects allegedly fled through a hole they had reportedly dug behind the house before the incident.
Although community members responded quickly, they were unable to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The victim promptly reported the matter at Mirama Police Station, requesting support from the Police Canine Unit based at Ntungamo Central Police Station (CPS).
Police dog tracks the suspect
A team of canine officers and investigators responded swiftly and processed the scene. A police sniffer dog named Yudah was introduced to the scent at the point of entry and successfully picked up a trail from the hole behind the house.
Yudah tracked the scent for approximately 700 metres, leading officers directly to the residence of a suspect identified as Itmana Denis, who was immediately arrested.
Another suspect, identified only as Junior, remains at large.
During a search of Denis’ home, officers recovered a hammer and an iron bar believed to have been used in the break-in. Under interrogation, Denis reportedly confessed to participating in the burglary.
He is currently in police custody as investigations continue, and efforts are underway to track down the second suspect
