The Uganda Police Force has announced plans to intensify supervision of election police constables following reports of alleged misconduct, as the country gears up for the 2026 General Elections.
Political Commissar Ubaldo Bamunoba said the move aims to ensure constables perform their duties professionally and do not act outside the law.
“In case there are those who are misbehaving, take note as the media, and report their actions,” he stated.
Bamunoba confirmed that the election constables have already been deployed alongside regular police officers in the field, forming part of the broader security operation ahead of polling day.
He stressed that heightened security deployment across Kampala and other parts of the country is a precautionary measure to respond to any internal or external threats and ensure the safety of all Ugandans.
“There is no need to fear security deployment if you are not a criminal. Our officers are on normal patrols to protect the city and all citizens,” he reassured the public.
Bamunoba also urged voters to follow security guidance at polling stations, noting that candidates are legally allowed either to witness proceedings in person or deploy trusted agents to observe on their behalf nationwide.
Addressing journalists, he called for professionalism in election coverage. “The police enjoy a cordial relationship with the media. Your security is guaranteed, but we appeal for professional conduct. If there is conflict, prioritize safety, be on the safe side,” he said.
