Dar es Salaam, Tanzania  — Taifa Group has announced that Nation Media Group (NMG) will resume operations in Uganda following authorisation from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The announcement marks a significant step for regional investment, media development, and East African integration. Taifa Group, through its subsidiary Taarifa Limited, is the majority shareholder of Nation Media Group and says it remains committed to responsible investment, strong corporate governance, and sustainable development across the region.

Taifa Group Chairman Rostam Azizi thanked President Museveni for authorising the resumption of the media company’s operations and also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his support during the engagement process.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for this important decision, and to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his support throughout the engagement that led to this positive outcome,” Azizi said.

He added that Taifa Group remains committed to contributing to Uganda’s socio-economic development through responsible investment, long-term partnerships, and sustainable value creation.

“As the majority shareholder of Nation Media Group, we fully support the Group’s commitment to fair, balanced, independent and responsible journalism that informs, educates and contributes positively to public discourse,” he said.

Azizi noted that the decision highlights the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and regional cooperation, adding that Taifa Group will continue investing in opportunities that create jobs, strengthen institutions, and promote shared prosperity across East Africa.

Nation Media Group Chairman Joe Muganda welcomed the development, saying the company would focus on rebuilding its presence in Uganda and reconnecting with its audiences.

“We welcome the opportunity to resume operations in Uganda and to reconnect with our audiences, employees, commercial partners and communities,” Muganda said.

He explained that the company’s immediate priority would be to restore its media platforms responsibly, strengthen local content, and provide Ugandans with credible, relevant, and innovative journalism across its print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

Muganda added that Nation Media Group would leverage its regional experience and capabilities to support a resilient media industry in Uganda while creating opportunities for local talent, enterprise, and public engagement.

According to Taifa Group, the resumption of Nation Media Group’s operations reflects the strong relationship between Uganda and Tanzania and the broader commitment by East African governments and the private sector to deepen regional integration, cross-border investment, and economic cooperation.

As it rebuilds its operations in Uganda, Nation Media Group said it will continue using its presence across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda to connect audiences, strengthen regional conversations, and contribute to the social and economic development of East Africa.

Taifa Group reaffirmed its commitment to working with governments, institutions, businesses, and communities across the region to expand sustainable economic opportunities and support East Africa’s long-term prosperity.
