ISINGIRO DISTRICT — President Yoweri Museveni has urged residents of Isingiro District in western Uganda to transform the NRM’s significant political success in the recent general elections into an economic triumph by working harder than ever before.
“We all have a part to play in the economic transformation of our communities, nation and region. The foundation has already been laid, and the ball is in your court to ensure that Isingiro is glorious and a haven of prosperity, wealth and progress,” he said.
Museveni’s message was contained in a speech delivered on his behalf by Vice President Jessica Alupo during celebrations to mark the NRM’s victory in Isingiro County North.
The President further told residents that with hard work, focus and unity, all that they envision for Isingiro can come to pass.
Museveni said the NRM leadership has lived up to its expectations by working hard to promote economic growth from the grassroots level.
“It has put in place infrastructure to speed up the growth of regions and has provided resources to the poor and underprivileged through wealth-creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model, Operation Wealth Creation and Emyooga. All these have brought about a change in people’s livelihoods,” he said.
He thanked the people of Isingiro County North, led by their area MP, Col. Bright Rwamirama, for overwhelmingly voting for the NRM leadership in the concluded presidential elections.
“You voted for value, peace and development, and your support has given us the mandate to move faster,” he said.
The President highlighted that the NRM has been driving the country’s economic transformation and has stood the test of time.
“It has surmounted all the traps of the diversionary elements and proved to Ugandans that it can relentlessly ride the wheel of growth with focus and with the vision to see that Ugandans are fully liberated from poverty,” he said.
Museveni added that when the people voted the NRM to power, they demonstrated to its critics that they could only entrust power to a party capable of delivering results.
In her remarks, Vice President Alupo thanked the people of Isingiro for overwhelmingly voting for the NRM and for coming together to celebrate the party’s victory as a family.
She assured the people of Isingiro District of the government’s commitment to expanding and improving social services such as healthcare, education and infrastructure, while urging communities to actively utilise these provisions and development programmes to generate household incomes.
Col. Rwamirama, the MP for Isingiro County North and State Minister for Animal Industry, congratulated President Museveni upon his re-election and thanked the people of Isingiro for supporting the NRM.
He promised improved service delivery based on the needs of the community.
