Security agencies have launched a crackdown in Mubende Municipality and surrounding areas, ordering the immediate removal of National Flags that were allegedly raised irregularly, as political temperatures continue to rise.
Over the weekend, a joint security operation was carried out targeting flags reportedly mounted by supporters of various political parties, with particular focus on those linked to the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Authorities say the action followed concerns that the National Flag was being displayed in violation of established legal and procedural standards.
Wamala Region Police Spokesperson Lameck Kigozi said security observed multiple cases where the National Flag had been raised in a manner that undermines its dignity and national value.
He cited shocking locations where flags were found hoisted, including pork joints, bars, toilets, brothels, and on electric and telephone line poles.
“This is an abuse of state symbols,” Kigozi said, warning that such actions contravene the law protecting the National Flag and other gazetted state symbols.
Police have cautioned the public against the misuse of national symbols and stressed that legal action will be taken against individuals who continue to display the National Flag without proper authorization.
Kigozi emphasized that clearance from the relevant authorities is mandatory before raising any protected state symbol.
Residents across the wider Wamala Region have now been directed to immediately lower any flags that were raised irregularly, as security agencies intensify enforcement to preserve the dignity of national symbols.
The operation comes at a politically sensitive time, underscoring growing scrutiny over political expression and the use of national imagery in public spaces.
