RABAT: Senegal are the African champions after beating Morocco 1-0 in a dramatic and controversial AFCON 2025 final in Rabat.
The only goal of the game came in extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring a powerful shot into the top corner.
However, the match became chaotic in stoppage time. Morocco’s Brahim Diaz had a penalty saved after a VAR review. The penalty was awarded when the referee decided Senegal’s El Hadji Malick Diouf had fouled Diaz in the box.
In protest of the decision, Senegal’s players walked off the field. The controversy started earlier when Ismaila Sarr thought he had scored for Senegal, but the referee ruled it out and VAR could not review it.
The decision caused fans in the stands to rush past security, making the situation even more tense as the game reached its final moments.
