KYANKWANZI: Police in Kyankwazi district are investigating an accident in which six people died on spot and scores injured.
The unfortunate incident occurred today (March 1, 2026) at around 0400 hours in in Kyakabuga village Kyankwanzi district along Kiboga-Hoima highway, after a bus reg no UBQ 595G from Kampala heading to Hoima rammed into head on with a Fuso fighter truck reg no UBF541C from the direction of Hoima carrying charcoal.
The Wamala Region police spokesman, Lameck Kigozi said the collision caused a fire which burnt the two vehicles.
He confirmed that six people died on spot of whom two were in the bus and four in the FUSO truck, while seven others were critically Injured.
“The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Hoima hospital Mortuary whereas the victims have been evacuated to Kikonda health center three for medical attention,” he added.
Among the deceased are Gerald Muhumuza aged 40, who was the bus driver and resident of Hoima west division; Linongola Matsukizo aged 47, a business lady, and a Congolese national; and four other bodies in the Fuso truck who had not been identified by the publication of this story.
Kigozi said rescue teams from Kyankwanzi and Hoima responded with a firefighter from Hoima which helped put out the fire.
He said the wreckage of the vehicles was towed away to avoid traffic disruption.
“Investigations into this accident are on going. Our hearts are with the bereaved and injured,” he added.
