Tanzania has once again cemented its status as a premier travel destination, retaining the title of “World’s Leading Safari Destination” at the 32nd edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025.
The prestigious Grand Final Gala was held on 6 December 2025 at the Exhibition World Center in Bahrain, attracting over 500 government officials and industry leaders.
Often described as the “Oscars of the travel industry,” the World Travel Awards recognized Tanzania with a remarkable string of wins. Beyond the safari accolade, the Serengeti National Park, famed for the iconic wildebeest migration, was named “World’s Leading National Park 2025.”
Zanzibar also shone on the global stage, securing the Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination award for its Spice Islands. Meanwhile, Tanzania’s private sector achieved two more honors: Serengeti Balloon Safaris was named World’s Leading Balloon Ride Operator, and Jumaira Thanda Resort on Mafia Island took home the Best Private Island Resort award.
Commenting on the achievements, Dr. Hassan Abbasi, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, said the awards were a testament to Tanzania’s commitment to responsible tourism and conservation, highlighting the combined efforts of both the government and private sector.
Having won the top safari honor for the second consecutive year, Tanzania is set to host the 2026 World Travel Awards Grand Final, further solidifying its place as a global leader in tourism.
