KISORO DISTRICT, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) –Police in Kisoro District have arrested ten nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for allegedly entering Uganda illegally through a porous border point without valid travel documents.
The suspects were arrested on November 7, 2026, by a Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) enforcement team in Echuya National Park, where they were allegedly found heading towards Kampala through the Kabale route.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, the suspects allegedly bypassed the gazetted Bunagana border point and entered Uganda without undergoing immigration clearance and mandatory health screening.
The ten suspects have been identified as Shameshu Makele Espoir, Alliance Busomeke, Ngabucha Love, Merveille Justine Odhua, Akilimali Balume, Asifiwe Chintalia, Jakisa Kermundu, Kukuni Mukulumanya, Iragi Chebuluzi Bahati and Mukengere Biralungira.
Police said the suspects failed to produce valid identification or travel documents when questioned and could not satisfactorily explain the purpose of their visit to Uganda.
They are currently detained at Kisoro Central Police Station on charges of illegal entry into Uganda, contrary to the Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Control Act, as investigations continue.
In a statement issued on November 8, Tumushime warned foreign nationals against using unofficial border crossings, urging them to enter the country through gazetted border points and carry valid travel documents.
“Anyone found entering Uganda illegally will be arrested and prosecuted or repatriated,” he warned.
Police also cautioned Ugandans against facilitating illegal immigration by harbouring, transporting or employing undocumented foreign nationals, saying those found engaging in such activities would also face arrest.
The public has been urged to report suspicious persons and illegal border crossings to the nearest police station.
