A tragic road crash in Ndwademutwe village on Mayangayanga Road has claimed two lives and left several others injured, after a tukutuku collided with motorcycles reportedly escorting a political figure. The accident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, September 17, 2025, at approximately 11:00 am.
According to Naggalama Police, the vehicles involved included a tukutuku with registration number UMA 053AP, driven by Nsubuga James, and an unregistered motorcycle ridden by Kiwanika Ramazan, a 19-year-old resident of Kanyogoga village in Namataba.
Kiwanika died instantly at the scene, while Ssempebwa Rogers, 27, also from Kanyogoga, succumbed to injuries while en route to the hospital.
The tukutuku was reportedly transporting five passengers from Nakifuma to Mayangayanga when the incident occurred. It collided with a group of motorcycles escorting Douglas Namujaala, a mayoral aspirant for Namataba Town Council. The motorcycle carrying the deceased was among those forming part of this unofficial convoy.
Three passengers from the tukutuku sustained injuries in the crash. They are: Nsubuga James, the driver, from Ntawo, Mukono District, Luzinda Jovan, also from Ntawo, and Simmon, another resident of Ntawo.
All injured victims were rushed to St. Francis Naggalama Hospital for emergency treatment.
The suspects involved in the political convoy reportedly fled the scene with their motorcycle, leaving behind devastation and unanswered questions.
Police transported the bodies of the deceased to Kayunga Hospital for postmortem examinations. The tukutuku was impounded and towed to Naggalama Police Station, where it remains pending a mechanical inspection.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine liability and track down those who fled the scene.
“We urge political leaders and their supporters to exercise responsibility, especially during campaign-related movements,” said Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, in a statement released on Wednesday, September 18.
The accident has sparked concern over the safety and legality of political motorcades, particularly in rural areas where road conditions and enforcement are often lacking.
As investigations continue, the police are appealing to any eyewitnesses to come forward with information that could assist in identifying the fleeing riders.
