The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Kampala has initiated a major food relief program designed to assist 30,000 Sudanese families living in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement.

This initiative is in line with Uganda’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, which are managed by the Office of the Prime Minister, and aims to support the country’s large refugee population exceeding 1.5 million individuals.

In a demonstration of international cooperation, the UAE has provided more than 700,000 tons of food to the settlement.

This assistance, presented by UAE Ambassador Abdullah Alshamsi, highlights the nation’s dedication to tackling global humanitarian issues.

During the event, Uganda’s State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balam Barugahara, commended the UAE for its unwavering support of Uganda’s development programs.

“The UAE’s generous aid has significantly impacted healthcare, education, and infrastructure in Uganda. This food donation reaffirms their dedication to bettering humanity and supporting our most vulnerable communities,” he said.

Barugahare highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in meeting the urgent needs of refugee populations.

He reiterated the government’s dedication to partnering with the UAE to ensure that all refugees in Uganda receive the necessary support.

Uganda, known for its welcoming stance towards refugees, continues to depend on international aid to strengthen its ability to provide food, shelter, healthcare, and education for those displaced.

The recent initiative from the UAE underscores the vital importance of global collaboration in enhancing the lives of individuals affected by conflict and displacement.

The food relief initiative has been positively received by local leaders and community members in the settlement, many of whom expressed their appreciation for the timely support.

One refugee, who chose to remain anonymous, remarked, “This assistance will significantly help us fulfill our basic needs and inspire hope for a brighter future.”

Uganda continues to be a prominent host for refugees worldwide, highlighting the importance of ongoing international support to tackle the difficulties encountered by displaced communities.
