Construction of the new St. Paul Church of Uganda Nyangilia sanctuary in Koboko District has received a major boost after Uganda Baati commenced roofing works on the building during a ceremony attended by religious leaders, political leaders, Christians and other well-wishers.

The official handover of the roofing project took place during a thanksgiving and fasting prayer service held at the church premises .  The event also marked the delivery of the first batch of roofing materials by Uganda Baati.

The roofing works, valued at approximately UGX 515 million, include the supply and installation of ULTRA-SPAN light gauge steel trusses, Versatile roofing sheets, and related roofing accessories.

The project is expected to move the long-awaited church sanctuary significantly closer to completion.

Speaking during the event, Uganda Baati Site Engineer Daniel Kiseka said the company was proud to support a project that will benefit the community for generations. “Uganda Baati has been manufacturing steel building solutions since 1964. Today, we do much more than roofing sheets. We provide complete building solutions, including steel trusses like those that will be installed on this church,” Kiseka said.

He added that the company continues to expand its range of products to meet the growing demand for high-quality building solutions across Uganda.

For the church leadership, the start of the roofing works marks a significant milestone in a project that has taken years of fundraising, prayer and community support.

The Archdeacon of Koboko and Vicar of Nyangilia Parish, Canon Alice Bayo, said the existing church building can no longer accommodate the growing congregation. “Our church has become too small, especially with the large number of children and young people who worship here. It is also very hot, especially around the altar. I pray that before the end of this year we shall be worshipping in our new sanctuary,” she said.

Canon Bayo thanked Uganda Baati for its support and appealed to Christians, friends and well-wishers to continue contributing towards the completion of the church. “Nothing is too small before God. Whatever you give will go a long way in helping us complete this sanctuary, and God will bless those who support His work,” she said.

Koboko District LC V Chairperson Ashiraf Mambo said the project had reached its current stage through the generosity of the local community but noted that additional resources would be needed to complete the remaining works.

He urged residents, well-wishers and the wider West Nile community to continue supporting the project through regular contributions. “This church belongs to all of us. Whether you contribute UGX 1,000 or UGX 5,000, every contribution matters. If we continue working together, we shall complete this church,” Mambo said.

He also appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fulfill an earlier pledge made towards the project, saying the support would help complete the remaining construction after the roofing phase.

Once completed, the new sanctuary will provide a larger, safer and more comfortable place of worship for the growing Christian community in Nyangilia Parish and surrounding areas. It will become the second-largest church in the Madi–West Nile Diocese and will serve as the main church for Nyangilia Parish as well as the headquarters of the Koboko Archdeaconry.
