Police in Kabalagala are holding a woman accused of breaking into hospital premises and stealing valuables in an incident that has raised concerns over security at healthcare facilities in Kampala.
The suspect, identified as BarbraNabatanzi, a resident of Kisenyi in Kampala Central Division, was arrested following an alleged theft at Nsambya Hospital on June 9, 2026.

According to police, Nabatanzi allegedly gained unauthorized access to the hospital premises at around 1:00pm and stole several items, including a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, a Tecno mobile phone, an Itel button phone, medical glasses and other personal belongings.
Investigators say the suspect concealed the stolen items in her handbag before she was intercepted.
The arrest followed the circulation of a video clip that reportedly captured the suspect’s actions within the hospital. Hospital security personnel apprehended her and recovered the suspected stolen property before handing her over to police for further investigations.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, said the suspect is now facing allegations of housebreaking and theft and remains in police custody pending court proceedings.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was arrested at the scene after allegedly stealing several items from the hospital premises. She remains in custody as inquiries continue and preparations for court are underway,” Kawala said.
Police further reported that during questioning by hospital security personnel, the suspect allegedly admitted that this was not the first time she had stolen from Nsambya Hospital, a claim investigators are now examining as part of ongoing inquiries.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals in public institutions as investigations into the incident continue.
