Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 100 suspects in a sweeping overnight operation aimed at tightening security ahead of the Easter holiday, authorities confirmed.
The coordinated crackdown, conducted in the late hours of April 1, 2026 through the early morning of April 2, 2026 stretched across multiple divisions in the metropolitan area.
Police say the operation combined heightened patrols, increased visibility, and intelligence-led interventions targeting crime-prone zones.
In Entebbe, officers moved through Kasenyi and Nakiwogo, rounding up 23 suspects. Mukono recorded the highest number of arrests, with 36 individuals picked up during operations in Kawoola, Katoogo, Takajjunge, and Kubiri.
Old Kampala followed, where 24 suspects were arrested in the bustling New Taxi Park and Kakajo areas.
Further south, Katwe Division reported 14 arrests in St. Augustine Zone, while Kira Division officers apprehended 11 suspects during operations in Mulawa, Kitukutwe, and Kiwologoma within Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Police also recovered exhibits believed to be linked to criminal activity, including dry marijuana leaves, rolled sticks, and fresh plant materials.
All suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
Authorities say similar operations will persist throughout the Easter period, signaling a firm stance on maintaining order and public safety during the festive season.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said the intensified enforcement is part of a broader strategy to ensure residents celebrate Easter in a secure environment.
