A total of 140 parish and sub-county councillors, sub-county chiefs and town clerks from Buyanja Constituency in Kibaale District are undergoing a three-day induction training organised by the Ministry of Local Government to enhance their leadership, governance and management skills.
The training, which began on Monday at Bwamiramira Sub-county headquarters in Kibaale Town Council, is scheduled to end on Wednesday.
Robert Sendegeya, the team leader of facilitators from the Ministry of Local Government, said the training is part of a nationwide programme aimed at equipping lower local government leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to improve service delivery.
The programme covers key areas, including decentralisation policies, government wealth creation programmes, relevant legislation, mindset change and effective leadership.
Sendegeya urged participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the knowledge acquired to their day-to-day responsibilities, emphasising the importance of addressing community needs and improving service delivery.
The participating councillors and chairpersons welcomed the initiative, saying it would strengthen their leadership capacity, enhance their ability to lobby for development programmes and equip them to respond more effectively to the needs of their communities.
They expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would help them fulfil their mandates more effectively and contribute to improved service delivery across their respective local governments.
