KAMPALA, Uganda: The Kampala Metropolitan Emyooga SACCO leaders have launched a campaign to mobilize 30,000 members to attend the final campaign rally of NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in what they describe as an expression of appreciation for his “visionary leadership.”
The call was made by Richard Tumwebaze, chairperson of the Kampala Metropolitan Emyooga SACCO Leaders Presidential Mobilization Team, during the launch of the Kawempe Division Emyooga SACCO Leaders Task Force. The task force has been established to spearhead voter mobilization for Museveni’s 2026 re-election bid.
The launch event, held at Kawempe–Ttuula, attracted a large gathering of members from various Emyooga SACCOs, who discussed strategies for strengthening their vote-mobilization efforts ahead of the presidential elections scheduled for January 15, 2026, when Museveni seeks his seventh term in office.
Among the speakers was Rebecca Christine Wanyana Luyombya, a beneficiary of the Emyooga program, chairperson of the Kawempe North Tailors “C” Emyooga SACCO, and NRM aspirant for the Kawempe I Parish Woman Councilor seat. She commended the Microfinance Support Centre for the two funding rounds her SACCO has received, saying the support has yielded “tremendous results.” She welcomed the newly announced increment in Emyooga funding, noting that it will further strengthen their financial capacity.
Benon Turyahebwe, chairperson of the Mulago 3 Parish “B” Boda Boda Emyooga SACCO, said his group used Emyooga funds to purchase motorcycles and extend loans to members—interventions that have significantly improved their earnings. He pledged to rally his members to support President Museveni in appreciation of what he described as “a rare gesture of goodwill.”
Tumwebaze told the enthusiastic crowd that the government’s recent boost to the Emyooga fund was intended to expand coverage and reach individuals who had previously missed out. As head of the Central Region Emyooga Coordination Desk, which oversees Busoga, Masaka, and the Kampala Metropolitan area including Wakiso, Mukono, Mpigi, Luwero, Buikwe and KCCA, he said his mandate includes delivering electoral victory for Museveni through the Emyooga structures.
He urged all Emyooga beneficiaries across the country to “show appreciation” by turning up in large numbers and voting for Museveni in the January 15, 2026 presidential elections.
