Police have blocked several roads around Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to ensure smooth traffic flow and heightened security during the ongoing National Resistance Movement (NRM) party conferences, which began today.
The three-day conference, running from August 25 to 27, 2025, is expected to attract over 45,000 delegates. Key on the agenda is the election of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) members for the 2026–2031 term, excluding the National Vice Chairman and First National Vice Chairperson, who are running unopposed.
The event kicked off today with the election of Special Interest Group (SIG) representatives.
In a traffic advisory issued earlier today, police urged motorists to avoid routes around Kololo to minimize disruptions.
Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, outlined the main access routes to the venue, including Sezibwa, Golf Course, and Fairway roads. He confirmed that John Babiiha Road (Acacia Avenue), Jinja Road, and Acacia Road leading to Golf Course remain open.
However, Lower and Upper Kololo Terraces will be restricted to only Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs).
Traffic from Lugogo will also be cut off, and motorists are advised to use Archer Road to connect to Jinja Road.
Wampewo Avenue will be closed at the Housing Finance Bank and Kololo traffic lights.
Parking arrangements have also been clearly defined. VVIPs will access the venue through the Eastern Gate via Wampewo Avenue and will park inside Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Delegates are to park at City High School and Hotel Africana.
Kananura called for public cooperation and compliance with traffic and security personnel.
“We urge all road users and participants to follow the guidance provided by officers on duty. Please exercise patience, adhere to the designated parking and diversion routes, and plan your journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience,” he said.
