A minor accident occurred at a railway crossing in Namumira, Mukono District, involving a Trinity Express bus and a Uganda Railways passenger train. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, the incident involved a Trinity Express bus (registration number RAH 629B) traveling from Nairobi to Kampala.

The bus, driven by Bulya Erat, reportedly failed to stop at the railway crossing and was struck by an oncoming passenger train, identified as 73U32, operated by Henry Munyarurembo.

The collision resulted in damage to the rear section of the bus, while the train remained intact. Both vehicles have since been moved to the Uganda Railways offices in Kyetume as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police officers promptly responded to the scene, took statements from witnesses, and launched an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. The bus driver is currently cooperating with the authorities.

“This incident highlights the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations, especially at railway crossings,” Onyango stated.

“Overspeeding and failure to observe warning signs at such points can lead to serious consequences. Drivers must remain vigilant and prioritize safety at all times,” he noted

He cautioned all road users, particularly public transport operators, to exercise maximum caution at railway intersections to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
