The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) would like to clarify recent misinformation circulating about the status of Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Contrary to reports, no killings have occurred in the Komanda–Eringeti area as alleged.
The accurate account is that a military engagement took place in Apakwang, approximately 40 kilometers north of Komanda in Mambasa territory. During this confrontation, the UPDF lost two soldiers. This area was previously a stronghold of ADF leader Musa Baluku, which UPDF forces have successfully dislodged.
Facing sustained pressure from the ongoing joint operations by the UPDF and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), the enemy has resorted to isolated reprisal attacks in remote and vulnerable areas. These include targeted assaults on villages aimed at intimidation and garnering media attention.
In a recent operation, UPDF–FARDC forces successfully engaged two enemy groups comprising 10–15 fighters in the Chabi area. The clash resulted in the neutralization of three terrorists and the recovery of three firearms. Pursuit operations are currently underway to track down an additional splinter group of 15–20 fighters reported to be operating around Oicha.
The UPDF, in close coordination with the FARDC, remains resolutely committed to protecting civilians, dismantling ADF terrorist networks, and restoring lasting peace and stability in eastern DRC.
