Hoima, Uganda – CNOOC Uganda Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to developing Uganda’s human capital in line with its talent development mission. Today, the company successfully concluded the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) training program, graduating 100 beneficiaries with internationally recognized technical skills.
The graduates include 20 trainees each in electrical maintenance, electrical installation, pipefitting, scaffolding, and rigging.
The beneficiaries were primarily instructors and students selected from 12 vocational training institutes across the country, including four institutions from the Albertine Region.
The two-month program was delivered by Zetta Energy Ltd in collaboration with the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) Namanve, on behalf of CNOOC Uganda Limited. It combined theoretical instruction, occupational health and safety training, and intensive hands-on practical sessions.
The training aimed to enhance technical skills, expand the pool of internationally certified talent within Uganda’s economy—particularly in the Albertine Region—and improve occupational health, safety, and environmental practices among vocational training instructors, ensuring knowledge is passed on to future generations.
Mr. Eric Jumba, National Content Manager at CNOOC Uganda Limited, congratulated the graduates during the ceremony and praised their dedication. He emphasized that the program demanded technical precision, a strong safety mindset, and adherence to international standards.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the company’s vision of “Energy for a Better Future” and reflects CNOOC Uganda Limited’s commitment to building a skilled workforce capable of meeting both local and global industry demands.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Komurubuga Mathew, an instructor at St. Simon Vocational Training Institute in Hoima, expressed his gratitude for the training. He said the program significantly enhanced his knowledge and skills, which he is now able to pass on to his students.
He also noted that he could not have afforded such a course independently, but through CNOOC Uganda Limited’s sponsorship, he successfully obtained international certification in rigging.
Beyond this program, CNOOC Uganda Limited continues to implement a range of initiatives benefiting communities in the Albertine Region and across Uganda. These include the Best Performers Awards, which have supported 1,448 students in Hoima and Kikuube districts; 11 scholarships awarded for bachelor’s and master’s studies at the China University of Petroleum; and training programs for 500 welders and 300 goods vehicle drivers.
The company also supports local health centers with modern medical equipment and livelihood restoration initiatives such as rice and millet demonstration gardens, which are currently training over 700 beneficiaries.
Additionally, CNOOC Uganda promotes environmental sustainability through tree planting campaigns aimed at developing a green, ecologically responsible oilfield
