Police in Rukungiri District have arrested a 30-year-old businesswoman over allegations of aggravated defilement involving a 15-year-old secondary school student.

The suspect has been identified as Akankwasa Caroline, a resident of Rwabuteneka Cell, Kagashe Ward, Eastern Division in Rukungiri Municipality.

According to police, the victim, whose identity has been withheld in accordance with the law, was allegedly called to the suspect’s home in Rwabuteneka Cell on August 26, 2026, at around 3:00pm.

Police allege that Caroline lured the minor to her home with the intention of engaging in a sexual act and later gave the child money.

The suspect is currently being held at Rukungiri Central Police Station as investigations into the allegations continue. She is facing a charge of aggravated defilement.

Police have condemned all forms of sexual abuse against children and urged parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for protecting minors.

Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, urged members of the public to report cases involving child sexual abuse to the police immediately.

He also cautioned parents and guardians against allowing children to move alone, particularly at night, and warned the public against attempting to settle defilement cases at village level or through monetary compensation.
