The National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, who was set to be nominated for Bukedea Woman MP but unexpectedly went missing, has rejected the accusations from her party leadership and public speculation that she was kidnapped.
In a video that has been shared widely on social media, Floremce Asio, who was running against the incumbent MP and Speaker of Parliament, Anitah Annet Among, stated that she was never kidnapped.
She explained that her decision to withdraw was made on short notice due to pressure from her family.
Asio, the NUP flag bearer, was anticipated to attend the nomination but failed to appear, allowing Among to celebrate her unopposed victory.
This situation raised concerns among party leaders, who alleged that she had been kidnapped, a claim she later dismissed.
“I am here to dispel the rumors that I was kidnapped by the Right Honorable Speaker Annet Anitah Among, as my party has alleged. I want to make it clear to everyone that I was not kidnapped,” she stated.
She emphasized that her absence from the nomination event was due to family pressure, explaining, “being the daughter of the Rt Hon. Speaker.”
“So, due to family pressure, I had to pull out. My decisions and my intensions to contest, came in on a short notice, that my family was not aware of and it came to them as a shock on the day of my unveiling. That is when the pressure started mounting, I didn’t take it seriously but I couldn’t hold it anymore. Thank you all for listening, I appreciate you all for your understanding,” she noted.
Among was declared the elected Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament for the 12th Parliament after getting nominated without anyother rival.
