President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Pius Perry Biribonwoha as the new Solicitor General (SG), elevating him from his previous position as Deputy Solicitor General. Biribonwoha succeeds Francis Atoke, who retired from civil service upon clicking retirement age.
Jackson Kafuuzi, the Deputy Attorney General who presided over the handover, remarked that Atoke leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication and exemplary service.
Biribonwoha boasts an impressive career, having served as Counsel General at Parliament and as Director of Legal and Legislative Services from 2008 to 2019.
He officially assumed his new role and duties on October 15, 2024.
During the handover, Atoke highlighted the significance of cultural values, describing them as essential to the success of any organization.
The SG is one of the two principal Law Officers of the government, assisting the Attorney General (AG) with a variety of responsibilities, including acting on behalf of the AG and managing delegated matters.
The Solicitor General also provides legal counsel to the executive branch and represents the government in court, particularly in constitutional cases. Biribonwoha’s prior appointment as Deputy Solicitor General in February 2022 set the stage for his current advancement.
In his new capacity, he will be instrumental in supporting the Attorney General and managing various legal issues, including civil litigation and civil law advisory matters.
