Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area have intensified a series of intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks and narcotics dens, arresting dozens of suspects in overnight swoops across several city divisions.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the ongoing operations are part of a broader campaign to restore public order and dismantle criminal gangs responsible for robberies, drug abuse, and other offences in the city’s black spots.

In the early hours of October 30, 2025, police units from Wamala Police Post in Nansana Division, Wakiso District, conducted an intelligence-led raid following repeated complaints of narcotics abuse in the area.

Eight suspects were apprehended from Wamala Kasumba, Karanzi, Kinyarwanda, and Tabba sub-zones, with officers recovering quantities of suspected narcotic substances. The suspects remain in custody pending prosecution.

Barely 24 hours later, between 12:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on October 31, another coordinated operation swept through the Thailand, Katogo, and Kago zones of Kinawataka in Nakawa Division.

Sixteen suspects were arrested from known hideouts and face charges of unlawful possession of narcotic substances and public nuisance.

Meanwhile, in Old Kampala Division, two separate operations in Nakulabye and Kisenyi resulted in the arrest of forty-eight suspects linked to simple robberies and drug-related offences.

Police say several exhibits, including dangerous weapons and suspected narcotics, were recovered.

All suspects are currently undergoing screening before being presented in court.

Beyond the arrests, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have also stepped up community engagement as a preventive strategy.

On October 29, officers held a community policing drive in Bulabira Kalitunsi, Najjera, educating residents on neighborhood watch, domestic violence prevention, vigilance, and electoral offences.

The outreach aimed to encourage residents to share timely intelligence and strengthen cooperation with law enforcement.

Owoyesigyire praised the public and local leaders for their growing support, emphasizing that community involvement remains key to maintaining peace and security in the city. He urged residents to stay vigilant and continue sharing credible information with the Police.
