Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) and National Chairman of the People’s League of Uganda (PLU), conducted an official inspection of the 20,000-seat Hoima City Stadium.
The General was joined by State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, officials from the National Council of Sports, and the Mayor of Hoima City.
During the visit, Kainerugaba highlighted the importance of maintaining the stadium’s world-class standards, urging the Ministry of Sports and the National Council of Sports to ensure that future projects replicate its excellence.
“The provision and upkeep of top-tier sporting facilities is key to nurturing our athletes and positioning Uganda for international success,” he said.
Hoima City Stadium, a multi-purpose arena, will play a pivotal role as Uganda co-hosts the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania. It is one of three venues in the country earmarked for tournament matches.
The stadium also represents a strategic government investment aimed at boosting sports infrastructure, promoting regional development in Hoima’s economic hub, and fulfilling Uganda’s commitments as a host nation for AFCON 2027.
Gen. Kainerugaba’s visit underscores Uganda’s commitment to sports development and the nation’s ambition to deliver world-class facilities for its athletes and fans alike.
