KAMPALA, Uganda: The timely intervention of the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, has saved land belonging to East Kololo Primary School from clandestine land grabbers who had attempted to seize a sizeable portion of the prime property.
This was reveled during Minister Kabanda’s campaign rally in Kololo I Parish, held at the school premises. During the rally, parents and school administrators expressed deep concern and disappointment over the increasing cases of land grabbing targeting educational institutions, which serve the public good.
The incumbent NRM Woman Councillor for Kololo I and Kamwokya I in Central Division Urban Council, Nalongo Sheila Komugisha, who is seeking re-election, informed the minister that land grabbers had recently attempted to illegally acquire four acres of the school’s land. She noted that the attempted grab was aimed at undermining the school’s development plans.
Similarly, Nansaga Joseph Lwanga, the LC III Councillor for Kololo I Parish, raised the matter and appealed to the minister to take decisive action to safeguard the school’s property.
The school’s headmistress, Bernadette Alweo, commended Minister Kabanda for her swift response after the school reported the attempted land grab to her office. She noted that the minister’s immediate action successfully thwarted the efforts of the land-grabbing syndicate.
Addressing residents and voters, Minister Kabanda confirmed the incident, revealing that she promptly directed the KCCA Executive Director, Hajji Buzeki, and his technical team to intervene. Their action resulted in the protection and recovery of the school land. She added that the land-grabbing group included a former area councillor, whom she did not name.
Minister Kabanda urged area residents to support her leadership, saying her commitment to protecting public property and community interests demonstrates her dedication to the welfare and development of the area.
