NAKASONGOLA District, Uganda – MTN Uganda has named 25 community projects to receive funding under the third phase of its Changemakers initiative, committing Shs 500 million to support local development.

Each project will receive up to Shs 20 million through the MTN Foundation to implement initiatives in economic empowerment, health, education, environmental protection, and water and sanitation.

The winners were chosen from more than 1,800 applications across Kampala, Greater Central, Western, Eastern, and Northern regions, based on community needs aligned with MTN Uganda’s focus areas.

“We are inspired by individuals and organisations that are already making a difference. Our role is to support them so they can extend that impact to more people,” said Allen Kagina, MTN Uganda Foundation Trustee, during the winners’ announcement ceremony held at the Migeera Women Centre of Influence in Migeera Town Council, Nakasongola District. The Centre, part of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, emerged as one of the beneficiaries, receiving sewing machines and fabric worth Shs 20 million to expand its vocational training programme. The programme specifically targets women, including sex workers and other community members, who wish to equip themselves with tailoring and entrepreneurship skills.

Rtd. Lt. Samuel Kigula, the chairperson of Nakasongola District welcomed the initiative, noting: “This programme will create opportunities for women and youth and support local development.”

Margret Katongole, the cordinator of Migeera Women Centre of Influence added: “This support will allow us to reach more women and give them the skills they need to earn a living and support their families.”

Since its inception, the MTN Changemakers initiative has funded over 50 projects, investing Shs 1 billion and reaching more than 235,633 people, while continuing to drive inclusive growth and improve living standards across Uganda.
