Four teachers are facing the possibility of a five-year prison sentence under the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Act after being apprehended by the Uganda Police Force for allegedly possessing and distributing counterfeit Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers online without authorization.

According to Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, anyone who acquires or attempts to acquire any examination paper, related materials, or information that claims to pertain to an examination paper is committing an offense.

If convicted, they could face a fine of up to one thousand currency points (Twenty Million Shillings) or a prison term of up to five years, or both.

The Act specifies that this includes both physical and electronic versions of examination materials and their transmission.

Primary Seven students are scheduled to begin their PLE examinations Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

The teachers implicated in this case are Vincent Bakashaba, a teacher at Kimongole Primary School in Isingiro district; Vincent Muheki, who teaches at Vision Primary School in Ibanda district; Albert Pabeku from Stoneridge Primary School in Kira; and Hosea Oyet Hosea of Dignatory Junior School in Rukungiri.

Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the Principal Public Relations Officer of the board, noted that the four were discovered distributing counterfeit PLE papers across various social media platforms, where they allegedly solicited payments of shs750,000/= for each set of the fake documents.

The suspects are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear in court for their plea hearing today, November 5, 2024
