WAKISO District (UGNEWSLINE) – A 30-year-old woman has died after she was allegedly stabbed in the stomach by her former partner in Masajja, Wakiso District, with police hunting for the suspect in a case investigators believe may be linked to domestic violence.
Nabona Shawula, a resident of Masajja Kibira A Zone in Masajja Division, died at Mulago National Referral Hospital at about 3am on 22 October, two days after the alleged attack, according to police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Shawula and the suspect, identified as Awali Magumba, had previously been in a romantic relationship but separated about five months ago following domestic disagreements.
Police allege that on 20 October, Magumba went to Shawula’s home armed with a knife and stabbed her in the stomach before fleeing the scene.
The injured woman was taken to a nearby clinic for treatment before being referred to Mulago Hospital, where she later died.
Rachael Kawala, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, said police were investigating the incident and efforts were under way to trace and arrest the suspect.
Investigators are seeking to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing. The allegations against the suspect have not been tested in court.
The case has renewed attention on the risks associated with domestic disputes, with police urging members of the public to report violence early and seek help from the relevant authorities before conflicts escalate.
Police also called on people experiencing or witnessing domestic violence to pursue lawful channels of intervention, warning that unresolved disputes can result in serious injury or loss of life.
