KIBOGA, Uganda – Police in Kiboga District have launched a manhunt for three individuals accused of assisting in an alleged illegal abortion after a fetus was recovered from a pit latrine in Kajjere Village, authorities said on Tuesday.
The investigation began after residents reported the discovery of a female fetus in a pit latrine belonging to a local resident.

Police responded to the scene, retrieved the remains, and opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to police, a 17-year-old girl identified as Sarah Nampijja was subsequently arrested after community members reportedly noticed that she no longer appeared pregnant, raising suspicions that led investigators to question her.
During interviews with detectives, Nampijja allegedly admitted terminating the pregnancy with the assistance of her mother, Jesca Nakibuule, her sister, Justine Nalugo, and a local medical worker.

Police say the teenager told investigators that she was given abortion-inducing drugs on two occasions on June 15, 2026 with the medication allegedly administered during the day and again later that night.
Authorities believe the abortion occurred at approximately 2:00am on June 16, after which the fetus was allegedly disposed of in the pit latrine.
The area Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi said investigators visited the scene, recovered the fetus, and documented evidence as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The case has also drawn intense attention within the local community, where residents have circulated allegations regarding strained family relationships that may have contributed to the incident.

Villagers claim that Nakibuule had previously been involved in a relationship with a man identified as Brian Bakuza, who later became romantically involved with her daughter.

Community members further allege that tensions arising from the pregnancy had led to disputes within the family.
Police emphasized that these claims remain unverified and form part of ongoing inquiries.
Meanwhile, the teenager’s mother, sister, and the medical worker sought by investigators have reportedly gone into hiding.

Authorities say efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the three suspects.
Police have used the incident to warn the public against engaging in abortion-related crimes and infanticide, noting that such acts can endanger lives and carry severe legal consequences under Ugandan law.
