Police in Mityana District have arrested 20 suspected criminals following an intelligence-led operation targeting crime-prone areas in Kakindu Sub-county.
The operation, conducted on June 16, was launched in response to growing public concern over a surge in criminal activity that has affected residents across the area.

According to police, officers raided several identified hotspots where suspected criminals allegedly hide and stage attacks on unsuspecting victims.
Authorities say the affected communities have recently experienced a rise in cases of housebreaking, theft, mugging, burglary, cattle theft, and substance abuse involving marijuana and mairungi, creating insecurity and hardship for local residents.
During the operation, police recovered suspected crime-enabling items, including housebreaking implements and quantities of marijuana.

The suspects were subsequently taken into custody and are currently being held at Mityana Central Police Station pending screening and investigations.
Police said individuals found to have no connection to criminal activities will be released, while those implicated in offences will be arraigned in court after the Resident State Attorney sanctions the charges against them.
The force has reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime across the district, emphasizing that similar intelligence-led operations will continue to be conducted regularly to restore security and protect communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Wamala Region Police, area spokesperson Lameck Kigozi said the crackdown demonstrates the force’s resolve to deal decisively with criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents throughout Mityana District.
