A police operation in Mukono District has led to the arrest of a man suspected of masterminding a series of motorcycle robberies targeting boda boda riders in the area.
The suspect, identified as Julius Kyeyune, also known as Kavuma, was arrested on June 20, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by police in Kakira Village, Kasawo Sub-county.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly posed as a passenger and hired boda boda riders from locations outside Kasawo.
Upon reaching Kasawo, he would reportedly direct the riders to secluded spots near the vast sugarcane plantations in Kakira Village, where they were robbed of their motorcycles.
Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, reported that upon his arrest, police searched the suspect’s residence and recovered a number of items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
These included housebreaking implements such as metal bars, cutters, pangas, motorcycle spare parts and other tools.
Police also recovered a motorcycle number plate, UGB 722Q, suspected to belong to an unidentified motorcycle, as well as helmets and metal materials believed to have been used in the fabrication of forged number plates.
Other items recovered during the operation included two AK-47 rifle cartridges, several smartphones, old motorcycle inner tubes, jackets, and two driving permits.
All exhibits have been secured as evidence to aid ongoing investigations.
Police say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects believed to be part of the criminal network. Authorities have urged members of the public who may have lost motorcycles or have information related to the case to cooperate with investigators.
