Police in Kampala Metropolitan South have arrested more than 500 suspects during a large scale joint operation targeting crime hotspots in Nateete and the surrounding areas of Nsangi, Katwe, and Kajjansi.
The operation, conducted by officers from the Nateete, Katwe, and Kajjansi policing divisions, was launched in response to a surge in reported criminal activities, including robberies, motorcycle thefts, mobile phone snatching, burglaries, and related offences.
According to police, the coordinated crackdown focused on areas identified through intelligence gathering and crime analysis as centres of persistent criminal activity.
Racheal Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, reported that during the operation, the officers recovered a number of exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances believed to be opium, suspected miraa, and several pangas allegedly found in the possession of suspects.
Authorities said the arrested individuals are facing various charges, including possession of narcotic drugs, public nuisance, and unlawful possession of offensive weapons in public places.
Police confirmed that all suspects remain in custody as screening processes continue ahead of their appearance in court.
