KAMPALA – Rotary District 9214 has collected more than 3,500 units of blood across Uganda and Tanzania during a mega blood donation campaign that marked the official opening of the 2026–2027 Rotary year.

The day-long exercise was coordinated by District Blood Donation Drive Officer Rotarian Cynthia Baitwa and Assistant Governor Nasibu Mahinya. Activities commenced at Princess Diana High School and Princess Diana Health Centre within the Ggaba Corridor Cluster.

The campaign was officially launched by Past District Governor Steven Mwanje, who served as the chief donor. He was joined by District Executive Secretary Florence Mukiibi, who commended the 12 Rotarians, led by Elizabeth Nantamu, President of the Rotary Club of Makindye West Kampala, for mobilising communities to participate in the life-saving initiative.

The blood donation exercise was simultaneously conducted across all six Rotary corridor clusters in the district, including Ggaba Road, Greater Masaka, Entebbe Road, Masaka Road, Western Uganda, and Tanzania.

The day’s activities culminated in a reception at Nican Resort Hotel in Kajjansi, Wakiso District, where Rotary International Director Emmanuel Katongole, the chief guest, launched the district’s official magazine and officially ushered in the Rotary Year of Impact.

During the event, incoming District Governor Daniel Mukasa Ddamulira unveiled his action plan for the 2026–2027 Rotary Year of Impact and called on Rotarians across the district to support his vision and strengthen Rotary’s service to communities.

According to the preliminary results, the Greater Masaka Cluster registered the highest number of blood units collected with 892 units, followed by Masaka Road Cluster with 664 units, Entebbe Road Cluster with 652 units, and the Western Uganda Cluster with 543 units. Combined with collections from the remaining clusters, the campaign raised more than 3,500 units of blood, providing a significant boost to blood banks in Uganda and Tanzania.
